The small (baby coils) are usually not paper wrapped, but strapped with steel bands only. Typical coil weight is 1 – 4 mt. The larger coils are mainly paper/polyethylene wrapped or export wrapped. Typical coil weight for the larger coils is usually 5 to 25 mt. Majority weighs 6 to 12 mt. Majority is oiled. All coils are marked with size, gross weight, net weight and identification number.
The material is available in quality grades ranging from very soft deep drawing quality up to stronger steel with higher yield points, which is normally requested by car manufacturers (it is used when the client requests high strength with a low weight). The figures 130 – 600 given in the quality grades are always meant to be minimum Yield Point in N/mm2 (as a guide, higher figure value means stronger steel). Please note that steel with same Yield Point also can have different characteristics depending on the additional letters in the quality grade.
The coils have no serious defects in chemistry and properties. Most of the coils are delivered from E.U. steel mills and steel service centres. Test certificates are not available.
Norex will always, and to the best of its knowledge, give the correct description for quality and defects. If the material has any known defects, we will give the main reason for declassification in the column for remarks. Please note that one item can have more than one defect.
1) The coils can have visual defects like scratches, oil marks, water marks/stains/rust and sometimes small physical damages due to inappropriate handling.
2) The coils can be out of tolerances in flatness and size.
3) The coils can be outside the producing mills standard quality grades.
4) Over-rolling means that the coils do not have any visual or known defects.
5) When we are not certain about the quality grades, we indicate the lowest grade and add better. (For instance, DC01 or better)
